Kataifi - Greek Pastry Rolls

Kataifi is a traditional Greek dessert that blends the crispiness of shredded phyllo dough with a rich, nutty filling, all soaked in a sweet, aromatic syrup. Resembling a bird's nest, this delicate pastry is often filled with a mixture of ground nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, and flavoured with cinnamon.

Is there a difference to baklava?

Hey Sophia! Both kataifi and baklava share layers of phyllo and a sweet, nutty filling soaked in syrup, but kataifi stands out with its shredded phyllo, creating a crisp, nest-like texture. The flavours are quite similar whereas the texture and presentation make them different! If you're interested, we have recipes for Pistachio & Walnut Baklava and Walnut & Orange Baklava Rolls for reference. Hope this helps 🤗✨

Would love to make this! Where did you get the kataifi pastry?

Hey Naomi! We found the kataifi pastry at a local Turkish supermarket, there it's often called "Kadayif pastry". Some larger grocery stores may have them as well 🤗
