Spicy Hutspot - Dutch Carrot Potato Mash
Hutspot is a classic Dutch winter dish that's hearty and filling, made with mashed carrots, potatoes, and onions. Traditionally mildly flavoured, it’s typically served with a smoked sausage and sometimes gravy. We decided to add a twist by incorporating warm spices and a spicy chipotle gravy. Paired with tangy pickled red onions and lettuce, this dish beautifully balances sweet, salty, and tangy flavours, with a bit of heat.Servings

Living in the Netherlands eating stampot is wel known to me. Most of the times I find it too be quite boring as most of the Dutch only use salt and pepper. But this one is really tasty! As I like it more coarse than soggy I adjusted the wet ingredients and used soy yoghurt Greek style in place of soy melk. Spices are mild which you can adjust to personal preferences.
This is a delicious comfort food kind of meal! The chipotle peppers in adobo sauce gave the gravy a warm flavorful kick. I will definitely be making this again and again!
Already made this a couple of times. This is really hutspot with a PUL twist. Love the combination of spices going trough the hutspot. Thank you!

Delicous!! 😋😋
Perfect for a cosy evening in winter!! 💚
I love trying new foods from different countries and this one was a must to satisfy our need for cosy winter dinners at the moment. The flavours were delicious and I added some miso paste to the gravy which worked a treat!
This was yummy! I think I'll go for a more umami style gravy next time though :)
It was okay but not the savory comfort food I expected. Would sauté the onions separately as they developed an unpleasant smell when cooked.
Great twist on this recipe, but also definitely honours the classic hutspot taste! Would recommend making a smaller portion of the sauce though, if you don’t like to spill leftovers.
