Garlic Cream Pasta with Mushrooms & Peas

You'd never guess that butter beans, also known as lima beans, are the secret ingredient in this super creamy pasta. The thick, garlicky sauce coats the pasta and will probably remind you of the popular "Alfredo" pasta.

Delightfully garlicky! I used canned light coconut milk and great northern beans.(also added 1/2 cube of veggie bouillon).
The sauce was tasty!

Hey PUL team!
To add more greens to this dish, would you recommend adding baby spinach in this dish OR a side dish of roasted broccoli-zucchini-cherry tomatoes OR a side salad of idk what.. 😅

help please 🙏🏻 🏳️

Hey Simran, oh my goodness they all sounds delicious!! Or course the easiest would be to simply add spinach to the pasta in the last couple of minutes of it cooking until the spinach wilts. If baby spinach you can add whole, or optionally roughly chop so it's not so stringy. Easy peasy! But the side dish options also sound lovely if you have time for it :D enjoyy!

Hellooo 🙋🏻‍♀️ I actually did not add any greens. I just the followed the recipe as is and it’s actually quite hearty on its own if the spaghetti serving size is the same as the photos. We generally eat less carbs and so we loaded our plate with the delicious creamy sauce..! It’s just sooo good!
For us, the sauce lasted us for 1 meal and a little 🤏 leftover for the next day.

Definitely making it again and highly recommend everyone to make dish this 🥰

Best pasta ever !!!!!❤️

The ingredients looked solid but it’s missing something. There’s a lack of flavor.

Lovely!

Made with cremini mushrooms and coconut milk but didn't take anything away from the garlicky goodness :)

I read the comments and saw the remark regarding the salt.. so instead I added half a stock cube (mushroom flavor) and it made so much difference! I also added more nutritional yeast (:

Very easy to make and using beans for the sauce is really nice! I used ‘kapucijners’ and this worked well.

Maryann Hreha - Jan. 5, 2026, 1:33 a.m.

Can I swap the butter beans for edamame ?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 5, 2026, 1:14 p.m.

Hey there, Maryann :) I wouldn’t recommend it for this recipe. Butter beans blend down very smoothly and almost disappear into the sauce, which is what gives it a creamy texture. Edamame stays much firmer and has a stronger flavour, so it wouldn’t create the same result. If you’re looking for a closer swap, another soft white bean would work better.

A more mild flavor sauce which is sometimes what you feel like eating. I used coconut milk instead as that is what I had handy. The sauce was thin as a result but we liked it! I also steamed broccoli and brussel sprouts instead of using peas. Thank you!

Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the pasta, Tina! ☺️

Martunia - Nov. 30, 2025, 10:05 p.m.

This recipe saved me this weekend when I got ill and couldn't go out grocery shopping. I happened yo have all the necessary ingredients at home, so I enjoyed a lovely home-cooked meal despite my circumstances 😋

Aww so glad that the recipe came in handy, Martunia! Hope you're feeling better as well 🙌

Danielle Braem - Nov. 11, 2025, 3:58 p.m.

Sara Hakkoum - Nov. 5, 2025, 8:20 p.m.

Absolutely delicious!

Nina Monteiro - Nov. 5, 2025, 2:29 p.m.

It's now in my rotation! The sauce os quite thick, but that's of my liking

Chrysiida - Oct. 30, 2025, 8:01 a.m.

Unfortunately, the sauce turned out to be a bit bland. I had this with my boyfriend and he pointed out that it needed a lot of salt to make it tasty. Also the peas needed a bit more time, because some of them were still hard and I left them to cook for more than 2 minutes....

PUL small logo PUL Team - Oct. 30, 2025, 2:01 p.m.

Hey Chrysiida! Aw we're sad to hear this. We've updated the recipe, including to add more salt and flavour boosters. Thanks for trying the recipe, and helping us improve 😊

Raquel Brandao - Oct. 23, 2025, 2:27 a.m.

Very low effort, comfort dish. I had to add a little bit more milk at the blender cause the sauce was too thick for me, but takes amazing and would do it again (:
