Ginataang translates to "cooked in coconut milk", and bilo-bilo refers to the chewy, handmade glutinous rice balls that are stewed in the coconut milk. The result is this deliciously sweet fruit soup. Generally, this is enjoyed as a merienda (light afternoon) snack, but during lent, it's not uncommon to enjoy this for breakfast.

Made it today, less the sweet potato as we didn’t have anymore. Found all the ingredients at our Asian store I. California. Very easy to make. Tastes like the gitaan I grew up eating in the Philippines. It’s still too watery, hoping it’ll thicken as it cools as noted in the recipe. Would make again! Thanks for including Filipino recipes in your app!!! I feel included:).

Ok I have water, can I substitute other ingredients with it? 😂

Haha water’s a solid start, Ekaterina 😅If you've got a local Asian supermarket nearby, it's worth a trip to stock up on some of the traditional ingredients used to make this Filipino dessert. One of our teammates, whose family is from the Philippines, made this for us, and we were all obsessed with the textures and tastes of the various components! It's so unique! That said, it’s a flexible recipe, so feel free to get creative with whatever you’ve got on hand.
